Chassis Decoding

Shenanigans! Ok so I have this project truck that I bought back in November of 08' and I knew when I bought it that it was pieced together. Well now I'm going alot farther with the restore than I intended originally. The Body is 72' Chevy C-10, the bed is from a truck in Arizona, and finally the chassis is from a 68' Chevy 3/4ton truck, or so I thought. I am in the middle of buying a rear disc conversion kit and the rear is a 14 bolt, leaf spring, 8-lug. I'm starting to wonder what the chassis really is so here's the numbers I found driver side 14055645 (underneath that number is) 3 199 (S) 1 and on the passenger side 14055646 (underneath that number is) 3 220 (S) 2. So can anybody tell me what these numbers mean? I've searched it in google and nothing on chassis decoding. Somebody Help me Please!!!

Re: Chassis Decoding

Those #'s are the part # for the frame. I have never seen or heard of any decoding for those #'s. If you want to know the year of your frame you will have to look at the # on the top rail of the frame on the drivers side located in two spots. The first digit is the year of the frame. The one below is a 72 frame for instance. The last 6 digits are the serial # or production # of the truck and is also the last part of the Vin # and on the title

Re: Chassis Decoding

Ahh, i see i see thanks for clearing that up for me. Like I was saying this truck has been pieced together so I'm trying to figure out what year it is/ or if its even a chevy frame.
Time to go hunt the number down, thanks!

Re: Chassis Decoding

Also I think the S is for St Louis plant. My truck is !Z which I assume is for 71 yr model Fremont plant.
