Re: how to install front drop springs?
Are you trying to get the old springs out right now? If so, you have to remove the spindle from the control arms. Make sure you support the lower control arm with a jack or wrap a chain around the control arms to keep the spring from doing what it does best...springing. There's plenty of threads that explain how to do this but if you can't find them I'm sure someone here can walk you through it.

Re: how to install front drop springs?
I'm looking for my thread "easy way to R & R front coils"
Please hold....................( long pause )............................. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...wpost&t=316433 Or look in the suspension threads, I bumped it to make it easy to find. Hope this helps. Last edited by MT71c-10; 03-27-2009 at 06:41 PM. |

Re: how to install front drop springs?
I think the easist way is to remove the 2 ubolts on the back of the lower arm and remove the spring that way.. Nice thing is you do not have to hit the ball joint with a hammer. I bet I can do both side before anyone can do one side!!!!!!

Re: how to install front drop springs?
you might think of buying a factory service manual most vendors have them at about $25 they have loads of info and step by step instructions on how to do all sorts of things on your truck

Darren, We've got it down to about 40 min from the time the jack goes under the truck until it comes back out and the beers are popped. You don't have to strike the balljoint...strike the spindle. All you have to seperate is one of them if you're just changing the springs and not the spindles. I know this vid needs rotated...but it conveys the general concept. |

Re: how to install front drop springs?
thanks for all the info guys, as mentioned i am no mechanic and have never tackled anything like this before, but wednesday i was bored at home and went at it, completely lost and just looking every over just thinking if anything i was doing was making sense or not... well first side took me about 3hrs and the other side was done in about 1hr, that was with cutting the stock springs and all.... so pretty much i feel very proud of myself on doing something myself since i have to pay most of the time when i need anything done... so now i feel cocky and going to tackle a few more stuff myself..... i think im gettting very attached to this thing! lol...
by the way it was took about 6 cuts on my arms doing the swap so i definately learned from it! lol..
