halogen headlight upgrade
anyone ever try one of those 'ez' halogen headlight wiring upgrade kits on their 60-66 from LMC truck? (part# 36-3580)
I bought one, cause in the description it says with this kit, you will remove the current draw/load off the original headlight switch, and have the lights pull power directly from the battery... and you get to use newer halogen headlights... I thought, sweet! I'm in! so the part gets here, and it's in this package with more Taiwan language letters than I have ever seen.. In fact, there's more Tai letters than there are english... which is usually no big deal, except for the extremely poor translation skills. for example: " CAUTION: for safety sake don-t install this wire harness on or aboue wherever as engine or somewhere will effect angine working " uh... WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN??? the wiring diagram which should be in a universal language seems straight forward enough, however according to my interpretation of the diagram, the wiring has the lights powered directly from the battery, with NO SWITCH! which would mean they would be on all the time, once the power cables are connected, and grounds grounded... I sent an email to LMC truck customer service, a few days ago, and have not recieved a reply back... SO, I was hoping one of you folks had given this a go, and had some ideas...

Re: halogen headlight upgrade
I think all you really needed was a relay. You put that in and you don't have to worry about the switch frying.

Re: halogen headlight upgrade
the blazer in my siggy came with halogens and no harness , the lites burn so hot that the plugs for the lights were begining to melt to the bulbs i would use the harness , if i remember correctly you wire the old wires into the new harness

Re: halogen headlight upgrade
yep... despite the wonky wiring instructions, the actual wiring diagram provided with the wiring harness is accurate. and it's also super simple, once you understand it...
anyway, yeah, you unplug your lights, and the adaptors built right into the harness plug right into the originals, then branch off to plug into the new halogens. you then wire up a ground, power, and the relays that come with the kit, and bob's your uncle... here's a pic of the new lights, and a bit of paint to spruce up the view...

Re: halogen headlight upgrade
I have a set of Hella E-codes w/city lights.
I run them in all my cars, the output/pattern is amazing. I use basically a fog light relay set up, i also run my horns the same way. The 4 lamp set up on my 1962 Thunderbird will burn your retina.
