poly vs. oem rubber mounts.
I want to here from you guys that replaced your body mounts. Did you use poly or oem rubber? if you had to do it again would you make the same choice? Do you wish you had gone with rubber or vice versa?

Re: poly vs. oem rubber mounts.
Ok so its 1987 and we are in new york building an old NESEG truck into a 4x4. We didnt have the money at the time. So we had Hockey pucks laying around. Hmmmm Body mounts drill and insert. They lasted 4 years.
I try it a few years ago and they lasted 6 months. So i installed Poly and they have been in for along time now. Its all in what you want to do? |

Re: poly vs. oem rubber mounts.
this thing will not be wheeled hard. Mostly snowy logging roads and the occasional mud pit. Imagine it's 1972 and you are outfitting your new Blazer. i'm going to go with skinny tall tires. I don't want it to ride hard.
Also I should mention I have the poly kit already, but it doesn't have bolts.

Re: poly vs. oem rubber mounts.
I've heard positives about both. Personally, I'd probably go with the rubber to help smooth the ride as much as possible since I won't be wheeling. If I was building a crazy, hard-core machine like Burt's, I'd probably install the tougher poly mounts. I've also read here on the board you need to coat the poly mounts with something to stop them from squeeking

Poly-Sqeeke
I have heard about it but never heard it ![]() The main reason is the EnergySuspension poly I bought (black) were impregnated (sp?) some king of poplygraphite..I would have to look it up to get the proper term, some kind of anti-squeeke process Energy Suspension does. I think the red color is pure poly and may be the source of sqeekey mounts.

Re: poly vs. oem rubber mounts.
I agree with Bouncy, I do not like poly anything. The rubber mounts work just fine, and allow someone else to wonder what that noise ( suspension bushings ) or what that vibration is. I want a Blazer/C-10 that drives like my wifes new Lexus, not like a race car. Ok, so I am dreaming a bit, but you get the picture.

Re: poly vs. oem rubber mounts.
If you go poly, you must grease them before installing, or they WILL squeak! But they will firm up the body mounts!

Re: poly vs. oem rubber mounts.
Factory replacement rubber mounts are a much better fit IMO, made to fit the application.
A lot of the poly sets I've seen are thinner and more generic, I've used em but won't ever again after seeing/installing the last rubber set. ![]() |

Jtrux- how did your install go? did you experience any of the issues VTblaze mentioned?

Re: poly vs. oem rubber mounts.
I also installed energy suspension Poly in my Blazer and I haven't been able to drive it much but fitment was perfect and I've heard no squeeks.

Re: poly vs. oem rubber mounts.
poly is fine for body but go rubber for the springs. they allow for more flex. even on old snowy logging roads that little extra helps.

Do you know what brand polys you were running? The energy suspension ones sound to be good. Perhaps you got different ones that weren't as good? |
