if i use 71 stock spindles and 6 lug rotors will my wheels/tires stick out past the fenders and require me to get new wheels upfront
and where can i get 6 lug rotors to fit the 71-72 stcok front spindle...and that spindle will go onto my 68 truck wont it thanks!

Re: will swappin to disc affect my backspacing?
The spindle will fit your truck, however you'll need new ball joints. LMC lists a different part number for both the upper and lower BJs.
I believe your only option for rotors is to get a 6-lug conversion rotor from your choice of 67-72 suppliers. I'm not aware of any 6 lug stock application that will fit. There is current thread which claims you'll be 3/4" wider on each side up front.

Re: will swappin to disc affect my backspacing?
another thing to keep in mind is that the wheels from your drum brackes wont fit on disc brakes

If you have 6-bolt rallies, they fit fine.

Re: will swappin to disc affect my backspacing?
the wheels that came stock on our trucks were not made to clear disks, it's that simple. When they added disk brakes, they redesigned the wheel shape to clear the caliper.

Re: will swappin to disc affect my backspacing?
I don't mean to hi-jack, but I asked something similar a while back and never got an answer. Can anyone tell me what backspace will work with a '68 front disc conversion.... stock height spindles ..... 15x8 6-lug rallys?
Also would like the wheel to fit both front & back.... thanks, Mike |

Re: will swappin to disc affect my backspacing?
I have 15x8 6 lug rally wheels on 4 corners of a '67 with CCP drop & disc conversion, lower a arms are really close though with 2 1/2 spindle; will prolly grind for clearance.

Re: will swappin to disc affect my backspacing?
Sorry I touched a nerve, but I thought it was pretty much on topic.
I did start my own thread a couple days ago on this topic... got very little response and no answer..... just thought I'd try again while people were talking about it. No offense meant. |

Re: will swappin to disc affect my backspacing?
Outer tie rods are different for the 71-72 spindles also.
Sometimes it's better to get all the parts from the same truck,... including the steering linkage. I just did this swap on my 69. (except I used dropped spindles) I used 71-72 spindles, 71-72 outer tie rods, POL conversion tie rod adapter sleeves, and then you have to use 67-70 outer tie rods as your new "inner" tie rods, to make the conversion sleeves work. The best choice would be to use all 71-72 stuff. Tie rods, drag link, etc.

Re: will swappin to disc affect my backspacing?
Another option is to use aftermarket 67-70 spindles for disc brakes.
Then you wouldn't have to change any ball joints or tie rods. Might be a cheaper route in the long run.

Re: will swappin to disc affect my backspacing?
I used Early Classic Enterprises on my '69. It added to the front track width. Wheels with a 4-inch backspace worked fine, so the Vette-style rallye (wheel vintiques) work great!
