Frame and rearend decode?

Frame # is 5-8--31 3935806-447

rearend # is NF3896838

What year is my frame and rearend?

Where are you getting that frame number from? If it is from the side of the frame it may not be the one you want. The frame serial number is stamped on top of the rail by the steering box. It should match the VIN number. I'm not sure if this works for GMC's or not but on the Chevy's the rear end code is stamped on the passengers side axle tube. Pic included. If you find a two or three letter code go to this web site to look it up.

This # is from a Chevy frame that I purchased. I have sent it to get powdercoated, and I dont know what year it is. I need to order the new S/S brake lines but don't remember exactly where the hard and flex lines were mounted, because there is a difference between the 71 and 72 frames. I called the guy that is coating it and he gave me those #'s.
