Proper alternator
Not sure what's going on. Have never tried to match numbers on the engine but I believe it is the original 327.
Went to Auto Zone to purchase an alternator and the connections are not the same. The one on the truck which may not be original has a side mount connector and the one at autozone has a rear mounted plug connector. It has an R and an F on either of the two post in the back plus the battery and ground connections. Anyone know which post to use on a 1968 C10 with a 327? |

Sounds like it has been converted to a newer internal regulator style alternator. Try one from a 75 chevy truck for example, see if it that looks like what you have now.

I would say you have an internal regulater alternator. Common conversion on these trucks.
Nevermind looks like it got beat to it waiting for the page to load. Darn work internet anyway!! LOL
