hydraulic brake help
I don't know anything about hydraulic brakes. It is about the only thing I havn't gone thru or replaced on my 67. Can I pop the lid off of the reservior (did I spell that right), to inspect the fluid and top it up, or will this let air into the lines?. Also , do I use DOT3 brake fluid?
I just finished changing oil pan , tranny pan and filter. I hope I don't have to do this job any time soon again. Well worth it though.

Mountain Man, sounds like y'all need a few lessons in basic shadetree mechanics. To answer your questions. Clean the dirt off the cover, then open the lid. You might need to use a screwdriver as a prybar. Then top off with DOT3 fluid, leaving about 1/4" air space and replace the cover.
Now for the advice. If you haven't, get a factory service manual. It's full of how-to's and pictures and will walk you through a lot of these items. Also, I highly recommend flushing the brake fluid every two years. This involves bleeding the brakes until clean fluid comes out at each wheel cylinder. Brake fluid absorbs water and is easily contaminated, causing rust in your cylinders and brake failure. The brake industry now tells you to flush every year, but they listen to their lawyers too much, in my opinion.
