Welding axles
I have two projects going at once so I have to start cutting corners with my truck a little. At first I was going to order a 5 lug axles for a 69 rear but now I want to reuse old axles. What do you guys use to weld the axles? Will a mig work or do I need something hotter?

Re: Welding axles
As long as its a big enough MIG. I wouldnt use anything smaller than a 175 amp 220v unit.

Re: Welding axles
Axle tube ya it will work axle shaft it may but I don't see it lasting long if you like to push on the gas. I have seen a dana 60 axle snap, just from slipping on dirt at the side of the road onto pavement because it was welded.

Re: Welding axles
If he was shortening the axles he would need a saw, not a welder? Is he is talking about plug welding the 6 lug holes and drilling it for 5 bolt? Maybe not ? never was good at Algebra?

Re: Welding axles
algebra i think has nothing to do with laying out boltpatterns, geometry is what i'd put to use

Re: Welding axles
well cutting a axle and welding the spline back on will not give you a dependable axle

WELD WHAT???//yoke cover saddles tubes avel shafts ???// if its just a matter of welding up the lug holes you b better off using the old studs as filler
