Help With Bench Seat Repair

I found a bench seat from a 68 to put in my 71. It has several broken springs. I have two questions.

1. I have seen a couple of websites that show the reupholstery process. The springs in mine look different from the one they were working on. Is the one I have correct for a 68?
2. Where can I buy replacement springs? I need a LH main wire and both outer wires. I also need the four no-sag springs (two on each side).

I found a company called Spaenaur that has main and outer wires but it appears they only sell wholesale. There catalog says ’59 to ’66 but they look the same as mine.

Wow...that looks really bad! If you were close I would cut you a heck of deal on a nice '68 seat. Google some upholstery sites and see what comes up. You can purchase seat replacement springs and other parts...I just don't know where in your area.

I've been taking springs out of a seat over at the salvage yard just like those. I used them to repair mine. I made the no-sag springs on the end out of the fronts of the long ones, it worked great. If you wanted to pay the postage I could send you some.

I recenty fixed the same problem, started by buying three different seats only to come to the conclusion that 2 had different springs and the third's were broken. So I cannabalized springs from the third seat, formed them into what I needed, and fastened them into placed by removing and re-using the factory crimped connectors. This ended up working really well and I was able to build an extra bolster spring for each side. However, by the looks of your seat frame, you might consider checking craigslist and junkyards for a better used seat with less rust.

For what it's worth I ran a wanted to buy ad for several weeks and had lots of replies. Lots of guys wanted to help but it didn't really pan out.

One other thing, I ordered the seat rebuild kit from LMC and it came with about 24" of spring material but no crimps.
