It should be delivered tomorrow. I'm about 100 percent sure I'll like this truck better than my 67-72s I've had lately. Life is short, why build the same truck over and over again ?

In my opinion, the older the better. The only reason I settled my search on a 63-66 was because the suspension and drivetrain is easy to update for small money.

I did an OLD Chevy once and it sucked. Babbit pounder engine, torque tube driveline and awful brakes. I had to completely build that car from scratch front to back, new rearend, open driveshaft, V8, auto, all new mounts, Mustang II front end to get good driveability.

I'd have bought an AD truck if it weren't for those issues. I drive them too much to live with that antiquated stuff every day and I'm too poor to build a catalog street rod ever again.

How similar are the frames Kevin? Would it be easier to just move the 63 body over to the other frame and not have to R&R all the suspension, engine, tranny, rear etc onto the old frame?

I haven't gotten a good straight answer on that yet. Obviously the big picture is the same, as crossmembers, axles, brakes, springs, etc all swap straight across. Mainly, the rear left framerail of my 72, behind the axle, is bent about an inch to inch and a half. I have always had to compensate for it by building spacers for that corner of the bed mount and adjusting the ECE super track bar to make the truck track straight from behind.

I think what I will do is to continue to drive the 72 at first. I will take the clip and bed off the 63 and give the frame a nice detail job (within reason). I will probably just clean and POR15 the frame. I will rebuild the rear training arms with new bushings and powdercoat. Then, in the front, I will clean, rebuild and powdercoat the 63 suspension crossmember and arms.

Once all of that is done, I will take the 72 off the road and remove the good stuff, detail, and install onto the 63. This way, I will continue to have something to drive around as long as possible to keep motivation high.

I`m not sure about the frames,either.But they sure look the same without really looking into it and I`ve never seen them side by side.If they fit fairly well,that would open things up to the 60-62s pretty good....for modders that is.

not sure on the frame myself either, but i do know of 2 4x4s here local that have 67-72 bodies bolted on 63-66 frames.. look pretty close to me, i know yours is a 2wd, but still would be close, unless i`m really missing something.

The frames are very similar but as stated, not the same. The front frame horns are very different & would have to be cut/spliced if swapping. The cab mounts & mount locations are different as well.

Tx, is they new owner of your 'work rig' going to finish you dually conversion or is that one upgrade that's going to remain just an idea?

I vin # on upper left door pillar will tell the year model. If it is 2C144 it is a 62 , if 3C144 it is a 63. From photo, appears to be a 62. Regardless of year, the character lines of the 62-66 hood and back of cab(small window) are fantastic.

Nope. The guy is a rich oil field prick who could not help but brag to me as to how he has had over 100 classic cars in his life. I just gritted my teeth as he counted the money out in my hand.

At 5'10" it`s never been an issue for me.

Thats cool I think I like like my fleet side more than step but I really like the step sides too.

It`s hard sellin`your truck to some people.You feel sorry for the truck.I had a rich guy tryin`to buy my K/20 Highlander but he was gettin on my nerves and he didn`t appreciate it`s rarity.Just liked the big tires and lift.He made it easy for me though.He kept wanting me to fix the axle stub u-joint because he wanted to know the 4wd worked.I just didn`t fix it.I told him it ain`t magic,it just needs the u-joint installed that`s layin`on the dash.After stalling him almost a year my friend handed me the money and totally surprised me.It`s in good hands.
