Re: What is the cheapest possible way to relocate my gas tank
There is a recent thread with a lot of ideas for this. As for me anything I alter doesn't end up very cheap. But I think either a drag cell or a blazer tank is fairly cheap.

Re: What is the cheapest possible way to relocate my gas tank
I just put a sound system in my truck, with the tank in the original location. I have a ten inch sub under the passenger seat and the amp under the drivers seat. I think it sounds great and i didn't have to move the tank.

Re: What is the cheapest possible way to relocate my gas tank
I am sure you know that the cheapest way possible is probably the worst way possible. You are really looking for an economical way to correctly move your tank. Afterall, we are talking about a several gallons of gasoline here. It's pretty important to do it right.
That being said, I think that a fuel tank or fuel cell under the bed behind the rear end is a pretty good place. It's pretty easy to run the lines, and if you want an economical filler you can put it up through the bed floor. A marker light filler or stake pocket filler isn't that much extra money either. There are quite a few threads on under bed tanks, and many of those use tanks off newer vehicles that fit between the frame. The big benefit there is that you get a tank at a pretty fair price.

Re: What is the cheapest possible way to relocate my gas tank
I have commented on this before. I did a Jeep cj install for around $115. Cheapest I could find. Its only 15 gallons but that is fine for me. I posted alot of info in other post but didn't seem to get any response so I didn't do a thread on it. Just search under Jeep tank and look for the picks.

Re: What is the cheapest possible way to relocate my gas tank
I used the 72-86 CJ and Scrambler tank. I didn't want it to hang low like the Blazer tank. It tucks up pretty nice.

Re: What is the cheapest possible way to relocate my gas tank
I went to the junk yard and bought a 82 or 84 blazer tank (non FI) and make a couple straps. welded in two pieces of angle iron. 20 bucks or so for 3/8" fuel line and the 25 bucks for the tank. Seems to work perfectly.

Re: What is the cheapest possible way to relocate my gas tank
Doesn't anyone mount their tank behind the quarterpanel instead....to allow you to keep the spare in the rear? Seems to me this would be a good setup as well. Many newer trucks are set up this way, so I'd imagine those parts would be easy to find and cheap as well.

Is the skid plate on those anything like a YJ? We used a YJ skid plate on my buddy's '58. Since his truck is slammed and the tank was pretty close to the ground....and he had the skid plate laying around....It fit pretty good and only needed a little trimming. I've also heard an early model Mustang tank works pretty well. Last edited by magsnubby; 04-23-2009 at 10:28 PM. |
