Brought my truck home

Well, I've had this truck for two years. It's been stored at my dad's almost that whole time. I've made little to no progress on it during that time because he lives about 45 minutes away. However, today with the help of Trai (tdave00) and Bryan's (5150) towbar I finally got it home. Now I can start on it. I'm so excited to have it here. Can't wait to get crackin on it. We used a towbar that bolted to the frame and it worked real well. You can still see where the brackets are bolted to the frame.







Brought home a bed full of parts with it. I've still got another bed, extra frame, nice cab, nice doors, various glasses, and two other boxes still stored at my dad's. You can see an extra set of rally's in the back that I painted about two years ago and they are already starting to rust a little. Guess I'll redo them and try to get it right this time.





Engine looks nice but it's not running right. It's got what sounds like a valve tick. I tried adjusting them but it hasn't gone away. Timing is not quite right as well.

I barely got it into my little garage. I actually had to trim my workbench some. It's alright. It was too deep to begin with. It was a solid 36" door that someone had given me. It was so deep that it made it hard to reach stuff on the peg board behind it. Now it's more like 30". The truck is in there with just inches to spare. I'll probably have to move my toolboxes so I can get to my tools.












Now to get to work. I'm sure I'll be calling on you guys many, many times.

yep, good old suburban garages. gotta love the "room". I have the same issues. glad I didn't buy a longbed!

Well, my orginal plan was to drop it and drive it. But, it's not as solid as it looks. The cab and doors are actually in pretty rough shape which is what prompted me to buy the nice cab and doors that I have at my dads. First thing I'll do is get it running well, do a disk conversion and power steering conversion on the front, and drop it as much as I can. I want to bag it, but my funds may require a static drop for now. I love your truck tcb-1. I hope mine looks that nice one day.

I bet you couldn't wait to get back home and start tinkering with the truck.

If you wanted to go bags you could just bag it and not run a compressor and tank for now. Just run your hard lines to the front and rear bags and air it up and down manually. Just a thought.

yep, what tdave said. you can get on the "ground floor" of bags without a compressor.

the drop I put on my truck could be had with CL finds, Ebay, and the for sale posts on this forum for $750-1000 easy. the biggest expense is the drop spindles. but you can get those sometimes on the cheap.

looks like you have a nice fender and steps and a set of Rallyes in the back of the truck. you can sell those to help fund the drop!!

That might be my old tow bar... I remember someone in Tn got it off of ChevyE... it may have been Bryan.

I would move the tools and bench to a side wall. I would have one side wall clear, or almost clear, then the back wall clear. Then pile all the junk you don't need up in the rafters or on the front lawn at a yard sale ... you GOTTA have room for the truck. That'show I put everything in my garage. I can get the longhorn or the burb in there, and have about almost 2 feet at one end of it.

Yeah, tow bars are awesome... kind of a lost art.

Used it to pull mine home from Huck's up in Louisville. 3 hour drive and I was cruising at 75-80 mph all the way home. Don't think we ever hit anywere near 75 yesterday, but it worked great.

Very nice Truck !!!!! I feel for you and the lack of space, I recently moved from a 3,000 sq. ft. house with a 2 1/2 car garage to a 900sq. ft house with 1 1/2 Garage, every thing is like....move this to get at that, move that to get at this...actually I should probably get a shotrbed instead of my land barge Suburban....

that tow bar drug my first longhorn to the junk yard 20 mile round trip, then my ols SWB GMC from Fort hood Tx to here... 2000 miles, then it brought my one ton from eastern PA to here... 450 miles, a bunch of little jobs here in town, 150 miles or so total, then CheveyE took the old GMC from here to where he was, 400 miles or so, then handed off again...
That's pretty good for a $95 wall mart tow bar huh?

Saw an Ebay store selling 4 Slam Specialties RE7's for $300. You would just be out your cups and lower plates for the front and whatever your air lines and fittings cost you. So, for somewhere around $400 you could bag it. After seeing those RE7's I think I am gonna sell the 2 airbags I picked up and go with those all the way around.

Looks like a good deal. Thanks for the link. I keep going back and forth. A few weeks ago I was ready to drop the money on all the bag stuff. In fact, I almost had a system bought from a board member but because of some misunderstanding and some other dealings through PM's it slipped through my hands. So, the moral of the story: Always do your business in the for sale thread, NOT PM's. It's all good now. I'm almost over it.
