Proper adjustment for the front leaf spring stop
Hi,
I just put in new 2" lift springs in my 72 K20 and now I am wondering how the shackle stop on the driver side front spring is supposed to be adjusted? Also what is it supposed to do in the first place? |

Re: Proper adjustment for the front leaf spring stop
The adjustment is to take it off! hahhaa
That is a safty mod from GM, in 1969 the front drivers spring eye bolt would brake and driver would loose control. The strap welded to the front spring perch and the frame mounted stop is there to 'trap' the spring pack in the event the front bolt brakes and alow the driver to come to a controlled stop. I wish I had saved a copy of the 1969 re-cal letter from GM that I saw online years ago.

Re: Proper adjustment for the front leaf spring stop
Thank you for the expanation... that sounds logical.
The bracket is slotted should I just back it off to where under full suspension compression it would contact the spring pack? My new spring pack is hitting it right now not allowing the shackle to pivot rearward and the suspension is no where near fully loaded/compressed? |

Re: Proper adjustment for the front leaf spring stop
I got 2.5" Softrides several years ago. My bracket is adjusted all the way rearward -- can't recall if it's always been that way, or if I moved it...
With the truck parked on level ground, the bracket is about 1/2" away from the spring eye -- and there is no sign of contact.

Re: Proper adjustment for the front leaf spring stop
Unbolt it and recycle! If you have not experienced it contacting the spring YET then you will if you hit a good sized bump, or pothole. Kinda bone jarring and makes ya kringe!!
