Custom wheel horn install
Any of you have a custom wheel? I have one from a Nova that I feel should work. I was missing a plastic spacer and got one of those from Tony. I can put the piece of spring steel on and depress it and the relay clicks (horn disconnected)....but when I try to put it all together it doesn't have any spring to it. I'm putting the spring steel piece in with the convex side up (toward driver). Everything else looks right, but if I screw it down firm it doesn't work. If I leave the screws slightly loose it will work, but doesn't feel like it should be that loose! I have it together just like this guy show in his pics below. Is it possible the horn button piece could be bad. I cleaned the contacts up in it, but wonder about the strength of the spring in it.

Re: Custom wheel horn install
LILRED66 is here...
Bob: Make sure the spring contact is working properly. Take it apart and make sure the spring isn't sprung. If so, buy a new one for a few bucks or let me know and I will send you one. Also, when tightening the assembly, make sure the plastic retainer with the three screw holes in it is seated on the steering wheel, not the flat spring steel contact plate. With everything working properly and tightened, the chrome horn ring will not feel loose. Give me a call is you like and I will help you out over the phone, if you like. Re: Custom wheel horn install
Thanks Tony,
I take it you mean the spring inside the horn contact bushing. I had some reservations about that. I'm not sure how stiff that should be and just exactly what it does. Is it supposed to allow the bottom plunger to stay down and make contact when the horn ring is pressed? If so, I'm not sure it is strong enough to so that. I may try a new spring in there. The other piece of spring metal seems like it has plenty of flex left in it. I'll give it a try tonight and if I don't get it I may call. Thanks!
