Can a LWB be cut down to SWB?

Like title says.... Can it be cut down without any issues? I am having trouble finding a frame for my 72 and much rather just cut it down if possible.

Thanks guys!

There's lots of stuff on this - do a search, a lot of good info with pictures on the site. You may want to look through the build section as well. It doesn't appear to be too complicated, if you have the welding skills.

I don't have the tools or the skills but willing to pay a shop to do it. Seems like frames are going for about $500 and labor is about $300 for the job to get done. $500 for a bent frame only in the front so they would cut my frame in half and the other aswell and join the good half the my front half......

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Can a LWB be cut down to SWB?

If you strip it down you should be able to find someone to do the cut and splice pretty reasonable.

By that I mean pull the bed off and possibly the cab depending on what the guy doing the work wants you to do. No sense paying someone else to do grunt work.

Be sure that who ever does the work cuts it so that it overlaps and isn't just butt welded together.

If your long bed box is in good shape I'd sell it and buy a short bed box in good shape. If the tailgate is in good/great shape don't let it get away.

The info in the link that ScotI gave has the proper information you need.

I'd highly consider making a copy of the information he gave and copy and print the photos as a reference for whoever does the work.

The bed I had I sold for $200 yesterday and the tailgate was non repairable. Its currently without a bed and now just needs to be cut.

I guess I will start searching for someone to cut it down for me.

Thanks

Now I need to find someone local to do it. I just posted in the regional section of the forum so hopefully someone will be as helpful there as you guys were in here
