what the?
What is a SWB stepside? SWB is short wide bed, right? If it is wide can it be step? I have seen a long step bed once but not a wide step bed. Who is off base, me or the posts I read?
 I need to know since I have two short bed trucks.

There are many debates about this, but SWB does not stand for short/wide bed because what would a stepside be called then? Short/narrow bed? SWB stands for short wheel base, and LWB is long wheel base. So a SWB stepside is a short/step. Get it?

There are some people who disagree and will call a short step a SNB (short narrow bed) or a LNB...
even J.C.Whitney gets it right. I mentioned it once at the dealership while picking up parts and they laughed so hard it was embarasing. |

SWB..........Short Wide Box SNB............Short Narrow Box Lost some where in translations..........

If GM refers to Wheel Base as SWB & LWB, then its good enough for me.
GM also refers to bed sizes this way: -Short Step -Long Step -Short Fleet -Long Fleet & - Longhorns as Longhorns. Last edited by Shane; 03-20-2003 at 11:59 AM. |

Somebody actually wrote GM when this came up before, and they said it was wheel base. I would believe GM over anybody telling me it's "wide bed". Do a search, you'll find it fast enough.

SWB does mean short wheel base. How ever I like to call mine a short wide. To each his own.

Was there a longhorn step made. I have a book showing a 1 ton stepside with a 9 ft box and fleetside with a 8.5 ft box?

The step side wasn't a longhorn...it was just a one ton step side truck. That was the only bed you could get on a one ton untill the longhorn came out in march of 68.

Around here we call short fleet's shortwides, and short steps stepsides. Long beds are called longwides.. Thats just how it's always been.
Now if I saw SWB somewhere I always knew it meant short wheelbase and also LWB long wheelbase etc. I agree, if GM says it's one thing I have to tend to agree with them.
