35 inch tires

i have a 1972 chevy blazer and i want to put 35 inch tires on it. can i put a 4 inch lift on it or a 6 inch lift and if i go with the 6 inch lift is there any othe modifacations i have to do to it.

Hey 72, not that I'm a veteran member, but welcome to the board! You can squeeze a set of 35's under a 4" lift but there is an area on the front of the front wheel well known as the "fang" where your tires may rub depending on the backspacing of your wheels. Also take the width of your tires into account, anything wider than a 12.50 probably won't fit without excessive rubbing or fender trimming... Also, with a 6" inch lift, it is generally recommended that you get some form of steering correction like a raised steering arm or drop pitman arm and you may want to invest in some extended brake lines as well. If you plan to do any moderate to hard wheeling, I would say go with the 6" so that you have more room for articulation but if you are just goong to use it on the street the a 4" should be fine. I have a set of 35x12.50s on mine using factory rally wheels with no problems.

If you go with a 6" you most likely will have to lengthen driveshafts.

The rule of thumb here is you can run 35s with a 4" lift if you're mostly street or light wheeling. If you're gonna do any more than that, go with a 6" lift or you'll tear up the sheetmetal.

A 6" lift is about the most you can get out of the stock shafts. Any more than that and you should plan on new ones.

I would highly recommend going with a CV joint at the transfer case in the rear if you are goind to lift it 4 or 6 inches. Otherwise, you will get a driveline vibration from excessive driveline angles. You will also go through driveshaft joints like nobody's business. I have a 6-inch lift and had to go with the CV joint in the rear in addition to longer shocks, brake lines, and drop drag link.

The answers are contingent on how you want to drive it and where you want to take it.

Along with what the others have said, adding a 6" lift starts to throw you into the world of cross over steering being a good idea too.

Gearing also comes into play, 4:10's would be great but if your currently running 3:08's, it's a poor combo.

Wheel off-set will play a big part in your clearance too. Adding Zero Rates will help re-center the rear wheels in the wheel openings and help level the truck too.
