Rear Smoked Glass
I've hunted around the various board and non-board venders for a stock
( non slider ) rear window for my 72 and the only one I've found is on the Brothers site and there is no pic and it says smoke grey color. Does anyone know here I could buy a stock rear window with the black deep tint?

Re: Rear Smoked Glass
Why not just buy a clear window and tint it to your preference?

Re: Rear Smoked Glass
It's all about the prep work.
people tend not to take the time to do it right, or buy a cheap product, and end up with bad results.

Re: Rear Smoked Glass
If you are meaning apply the tint film, I'm not a big fan of that for exactly the reasons Greasemonkey72 stated, the bubbling and peeling after time. If you look as you drive around you will lots of different types of vehicles with the film tint that has been on for a few years and is now bubbling and peeling.

if you do it right, even the cheap tint will work great.

Re: Rear Smoked Glass
We took the rear glass out, and had a glass shop install the stick on film. So far so good. If it bubbles I guess we could just re-install a new piece.

Re: Rear Smoked Glass
The peeling and bubbling is from a bad install usually. Take your glass to a shop. They usually give a lifetime warranty on their work. I just did my daily driver last week and it turned out pretty good for my first time. Shock Me- your truck looks great!

Re: Rear Smoked Glass
The factory only made green tint called "SolaRay" by LOF.Any black or smoke tinted glass is not factory.I had mine done on my`92 professionally and it is shrinking at the edges after 15 years. There are other flaws, too. It lasts a long time, though.
I have info somewhere from a place that makes all our glass in about 6 different tints.I think it was from NC.

Re: Rear Smoked Glass
My windshield guy sells glass that is tinted inside the glass. He cuts it to fit, so if one wants a dark rear window he makes one. That is Todd Craft @ Sunrise Glass in Merriam, Kansas.

Re: Rear Smoked Glass
Hi.. No I have never gotten an answer about the dark tint glass. I see you live in Arizona and if there is anywhere that you should be able to find the deep tint glass I would think it would be in a hot State like Ariziona. I went to the wrecking yard and bought a decent ( no marks or scratches) rear window from a junk 69 truck and will have that profesionally tinted locally before I install it in my truck.

Re: Rear Smoked Glass
If you go to any glass shop they can cut you a piece of tinted safety glass( they have many shades). It can be done on this era of trucks due to the flat glass in the doors, not like 73+. Its not as much as you think it would be. I had my whole truck done, rear slider and sidewindows in tinted safety glass. It has to be safety or tempered to be legal. Tinted tempered glass can be done but its lots of $$$....

Re: Rear Smoked Glass
Any glass shop can cut a new piece of glass and send it out to be tempered. Rear glass, Door glass & Vents. As dark as you want. They need to cut the holes in the vent glass pryor to having it tempered. I've had my done and several K5's. (they are all Flat Glass) You just need to pick out the degree of tint. Also when they scribe in the tempered bug, make sure it in the corner you want or have them leave it off. But check with your local trooper for what's allowed. Even though the tint is in the glass it will still not be approved glazing if it's to dark. Calif. only allows a low % tint on door glass and thats if the CHiP is not anal.
