No such thing as a dumb question.. Yeah they are tight. It's not a squealling noise, more like gear noise..

Thanks for all of the ideas guys.. I've got it narrowed down to either the tranny or the rear end. But apparently I have bigger problems, but I'm saving it for another thread..

I'm going out to sea on monday and wont be back till mid June, so my work has been put on hold.
