62 chevy stepside ?hei wireing and questions
what i have is a 62 chevy short stepside body that i mounted on a 95 4wd.k5 blazer frame i changed it to a 4bl.carb and manifold and ii have a hei. dist.,i allso have a 86 chevy 350 trans and converter to swap out the 460e trans.my goal is to do away with the computer .the blazer was in a fire and all the elect.were burned up.i would like to know if the early trans will work with the blazers trans fer case and will it operate right with just the floor shifter to put it in 4wd.also can someone please show me a simple way to wire in the hei.dist. and the late model alternator, and starter, all the 62s org.wireing is intack so i would like to just splice into the old wireing to get it running. i know the trans fer case has a speed sensor for the speedomiter but iam not concerned about that at this point, iam just concerned if it will work right with no elect.any help would be greatly appriciated Thank you.

Re: 62 chevy stepside ?hei wireing and questions
from what i understand a hei needs a constant 12v supply in order to operate correctly. so if your original wiring from the 62 is intact hook the alternator up to the original wiring, the same with the starter, and find a switched 12v source for the distributor. I have not done this yet but the motor i picked up has hei so this info comes from reading other peoples ideas.

as the lights said just take a 12 volt source from your ignition switch (only on in ON position) and hook the wire up to the power feed on your dist. (one closest to the firewall)

you will have to do away with the external voltage regulator and install new plug in to the alternator. I think you tie the outside wires together and the inside together at the external reg but if you look there are some good how to's on the net.
