700R4 in 1971 C10
I just got a 71 C10 long bed and i'm looking into putting a 700R4 behind the 350. What all do i need to do this. I know i need a new crossmember but will i be able to reuse the existing linkage from the TH350? Will i need a knew driveshaft?

Re: 700R4 in 1971 C10
You will need to make some provisions for the lock-up converter. You can use the same crossmember - slide it back and drill new holes. Make sure your 700r4 has a tail shaft with a rear mount. You will have to cut the driveshaft. The shift linkage can be made to work but will not have the overdrive designation on the selector. A carburetor adaptor for the pressure cable is helpful - you can use the 700r4 pressure cable or an adjustable after-market cable . If the 700r4 has an electronic speedometer you will have to change you speedometer or change the drive to a manual speedometer cable.

Re: 700R4 in 1971 C10
I put a 2004r in place of my TH350 and the driveshaft was the right length. I believe with a 700r4 you will need different length driveshaft. With the 2004r I didn't have to drill any new holes in the frame just moved the crossmember back to the next set of holes (I believe the ones for the TH400). Don't forget the brackets for the T.V. cable, one for the Carburetor geometry and another to mount the cable to the intake/Carburetor. I also made my own wiring for the lockup converter with a switch on the dash, an new brake switch, and a relay.

I've put a 700r4 in place of a th350 many times and never touched the drive shaft.
