Seat belts and Serp setups

I looked a little but didn't find what I was looking for.....

Can anyone suggest the best vehicles for the 3-point retractable selt belts from that'll fit my 68?

Also, what vehicles can I pull a serpentine belt setup from? Do I need the water pump too? What tools should I take to remove it?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Re: Seat belts and Serp setups

I got a serp setup from a '94 burban, the trucks are the same as well. get everything, pump, ac, bolts etc. I used the pump as a core and installed a new one. take a pulley puller with ya. here is a pretty good writeup on serp belts.

just so you know, by federal law, you can't just go swappin out the belts with some from another model vehicle.
Any flaming will fall on deaf ears. (I ALWAYS get crap for saying that... whine to the feds, not me.
With that said, some people on here say that if you are a thin person, square body S-10 belts fit pretty decent.

Thanks for your input LHM....but did you call me a "deaf flamer"........j/k

So hypothetically speaking, if I happened to be at the boneyard looking for truck parts and happen to see seat belts that "look" like they would work in our trucks, what year truck would I be "looking" for (seems to me I've seen a thread somewhere on here where guys (who will remain anonymous) were picking up belts out of newer trucks that fit our trucks....ie the s10 you suggested....any others that can be recommended off the record??
Also, my dumb ??? is what year was the square body s10??.....(I'm really not trying to be a jacka$$)

Thanks again! G

also, all disclaimers are appreciated

Re: Seat belts and Serp setups

The square body S-10 ended around 93 or 94. Also I would think a square body full size truck would be similar. As far as reusing seatbelts, I would be cautious about doing it. The trucks are in the junkyard because they have been crashed, or they are rotting apart. The seatbelts rot just like everything else, and crashed belts may have been compromised. For the relatively cheap cost of new 3 points it is hardly worth risking your safety.

Blutrukker....I appreciate your input....Reusing a seatbelt from a wrecked vehicle isn't what I really want to do....I guess I should say that I don't want them out of the boneyard, just trying to find some so I know what I'm asking for when I am checking prices....I know Brother's offer some for about $230....Has anyone found others??...How much and where??

Thanks again,...

Re: Seat belts and Serp setups

Aftermarket 3 point belts are probaly what I'm going to be using in my truck, but does anyone know of a vendor that uses a factory looking buckle???? Every aftermarket seat belt I've seen seems to have a cheap looking airplane buckles. Also has anyone replaced these buckles with factory type?

Re: Seat belts and Serp setups

Check parts suppliers or dealers and ask about new square body seatbelts, there may be a price difference.
