70 c10 with 68 camaro suspension

I am going to look at a 70 with 68 camarep front suspension.
Any pros or cons to this?

I'm also sure it could be cut out and returned to stock fairly easy. Just want others opinions on the swap. Anyone else ever see it done? Why? Ill get pics tonight

i personally don't see any reason to do that to one of these trucks. Old straight axle trucks sure, there's a million reasons, but these have basicly the same set up as stock equipment, and putting camaro stuff just adds $$ and reduces payload... but does little to nothing to help.

If they did a cut and weld job... as in swapped out the front frame rails, then i would make 100% sure that the person who welded it knows exactly what he was doing.

Myself, I'd skip it.

I know the first gen camaro suspension (from a handling perspective) isn't that great. And especially in comparison to our trucks suspension, I see no advantage of having it.

if he cut the front of the C10frame off then welded the camero front sub frame on i'd run as far and as fast as you can away from it

I'm going to meet him in an hour and ill crawl under it to check the suspension and take pics then we can see what we have.

Frame was hacked off under the cab and the camaro frame and suspension welded on. Sucks, the rest of the truck was pretty damn nice! Wood bed, ac, next truck in line! I'm also tossing project "frank" yruck around.

thats what happens when ppl read too many magizines. This is a very VERY common thing on the older straight axle trucks, and if done right, it's a good low buck idea as a solid axle replacement. The Aspen/Valorie torsion bar suspention is a common swap too.
But, like said before, no need to do it on these trucks, other than becouse that's what all the cool guys with 56 fords are doing.

You get more drop with the 70 Camaro frame and a car lug pattern. No other advantage.

Now if it had a late modle Camaro frame, then you would get quite a bit of advantage. The suspention geometry is better.

Welding on a front frame is no worse than "Z"ing, or cutting a long frame down to a short frame or putting in a K notch. You are severing the entire frame and putting it back together. How many ooos and ahhs do we see in the projects section? Is every project builder a certified welder? I think not.

Just have the welds checked as well as frame alignment.

he wanted 3900 for it and when we talked a deal he said maybe a hundred buckds off and the motor is blown. I told him we are a could grand off. LOL however the truck is a factory power steering, factory AC and factory wood bed truck.

Well...to me it sounds like a waste of a perfectly good '68 Camaro and a perfectly good '70 C10...all to end up with somthing nobody wants.

Why? If it is good for a '55, it will be fine for a 67-72. Look at all the Mustang II front ends sold for trucks. Volari front ends too. Strength is not a factor. Neither is the brakes. The only real issue is are the welds good and the frame straight.

but the main issue, is you gain nothing out of it. You can make it sit lower... that's the main thing you gain, but there's other ways to do that though.
No need to re-invent the wheel... only to come up with the same wheel you had to begin with.

Weight wise the car and the truck are pretty close to the same until you stick a load in the truck and that truck wouldn't be hauling anything more than a duffle bag and cooler.
I could see one with maybe a mid 70's Trans Am front subframe and rear end under it to get car five lug and very low.
somehow this sounds like a hack job.

I've had the First series Camaro /68/72 Nova subframes under my 48 and the 51 Merc that I had for many years. Both drove like slot cars on the highway and both rode great. I'd still be running the subframe under the truck if I hadn't had problems with the back end of the frame where some not so wise mods caused problems.

From the sound of it the truck is worth what a good cab, bed and front clip are worth in that area plus maybe a hundred or two for a clear title. If the body is nice wait a while and see if he still has it and go wave cash under his nose. Then do as someone said above and swap the cab onto a good chassis.

Truck brakes and bearings are bigger.I`d never give that up to sit lower...pretty silly IMO.Especially when you can do this using the proper truck parts.Don`t car guys want bigger better brakes on their rides?Don`t people spend big bucks on "big brakes"?I`d be more inclined to swap C/20 hubs and roll 8-lugs if I was going that route.

I`d run from anything built like this truck.What else did they do?I`d sooner buy a stocker than one that someone "engineered".I`d be hesitant to buy any truck with a hacked-up frame.I say "hacked"...I know there are some nice clean jobs done well.But,I call it hacked,as in hacksaw,the saw you use to cut steel.It may be a trend and a whole crowd wants the stuff.But,it still hurts the integrity of the vehicle and has the potential of becoming unsellable.

Apart from not really gaining anything, wouldn't the camaro subframe have a much narrower track width ? that would cause some srious handling issues
