For a 3/4 ton 4x4.....1985

There are lots of brake kits for the six bolt pattern, but how about the 8 bolt?

I want to get some good rotors and Hawk pads.

Before getting better front discs, you may want to get rear discs, then if that isnt good enough get better rotors.

I agree that you should probably consider rear discs on C-10 applications, but don't know that would be my first step on a C-20.

If you have already reconditioned your brake system and it still doesn't perform to your satisfaction there are some options. Before you go further, you should consider replacing the front brake flex line. These are prone to balloon after years of service and will diminish your brake pressure. Braided stainless lines are the ultimate, but new rubber lines will be an improvement.

Take a look at what Praise Dyno Brakes has to offer- LINK I have not used their product specifically, but have friends that have. They were very impressed with the improved performance in braking ability.

Another option is Applied Rotor Technology- LINK who I have used. I had great results from this companies product, and fantastic customer service.

Do some research on the cost of rear disc conversions. If your after ultimate stopping power it probably the way to go. If you want to improve your drum brakes, consider a set of Cryogenic treated performance shoes as a more economical option.

Thanks for the replies.....I tow an 8500lb boat and my current rotors are a little wee bit warped and I want to replace them with something better than stock replacement....I put a set of Hawk pads on my old '95 Sub I used to have and it made a noticeable improvement over stock and I was satisfied with the braking performance. Id like to put on some good rotors and pads on this truck. The rear drums on these things are huge, Id like to put on some hi perf rear shoes if there is such a thing......the new flex lines are a good idea, braided steel, even better!....doug

Look at Praise and ART for premium upgrades on pads and rotors. Do some research on the cryogenic treating. You will be impressed.

I can vouch for the viability of its success. It makes a huge difference in rotor life and prevents warping.

There are a ton of cheap disc brake upgrade's for the 14b rear I would look into instead of keeping the drums. Getting rid of those huge drums will save about 100lbs too.

I know about cryogenic's through Nascar, their right into it and I have a couple of cryo treated rear gearsets for my racecar.....most of the causes of rotor warping are a combination of cheep steel in chinese rotors and poor pad material overheating the rotor from a pad manufacture that is more concerned about noise and lack of dust than performance.

Ruff Stuff Specialties has the caliper brackets and they also sell them on ebay for about $55 shipped. You just use a set of front calipers and rotors from a dana 44. In total a complete setup will cost you less than $200. This is the setup I am running on my 82 and it will stop on a dime with about 10,000 lb on my trailer.

Ok, you already have the scoop in cryo-treating. I hear it makes a huge difference on longevity with rear gears as well as tranny sets.

I had a friend run the Praise Dyno pads, rotors, and shoes on his F-250 LWB CC and was amazed at the longevity.

Even when the pads wore out, the rotors still looked new. He scuffed them with sand paper to get the glazing off, and never turned them.

thanks for the link!......do they give you an exact part number for the caliper and rotor to use?.....how does the e brake work and is your stock brake proportioning valve ok?

I dont have an e brake any more because I used the front calipers and rotors from a 75 k20 but if you use Cadillac rear calipers (not sure what year) you can retain your e brake and yes the stock prop valve is ok
