72 burb air stopped working?!?
Hello, I have a 72 chevy suburban custom 1/2 ton (original 402bbc, fact tilt, fact front and rear air, fact third seat, original 86k mile, fact front sway bar, fact rear air ride shocks, camper package and many other features) but the other day I was out riding my pride and joy and the air conditioner stopped working. Let me be more specific. The fan for the front air/heat stopped working. The a/c compressor doesn't come on if the fan switch is not on or working. The fan doesn't work in heat mode either. The rear fan still works as it should. I checked the fuses and they are good. I replaced the fan switch with another one that I had and the same problem exists. My question is what volt should I be getting at the fan switch where volts come in to the switch and am I miss seeing a relay somewhere hid under the dash that could be bad. I am only getting about 2vdc at the switch but getting the full 12vdc at fuse block. Oh I did check the fan by jumper and it works. Any help is greatly appreciated. I will post pictures as soon as possible

Re: 72 burb air stopped working?!?
there is a relay, but it is only for the high selection on the switch. If you aren't getting full power to any of the wires at the switch, and it isn't melted, then it is time to start inspecting the wires, and the rear of the fuse bolock.
I would also love to see photos of your burb... and to be honest, i have never seen nor seen any literature on stock air shocks... do you have a photo of the SPID? |

Re: 72 burb air stopped working?!?
Sorry for the delay but my file size was a little to large to upload. Here are some pictures of the ole girl. The shocks are actually called SUPERLIFT REAR SHOCK which is a fancy name for air shocks.

I realize this has nothing to do with the original post but how much drop and wheel size? Sweet ride the stance is perfect.

Re: 72 burb air stopped working?!?
Thanks, I went with a 3" front and 4" rear spring drop. I have 275/45/20 and front and 285/50/20 on the rear (I don't drive it much so I wasn't concerned with rotating the tires). The rear of the burb is so long that I wanted a big tire to try and balance out the space. When I have the family in the rear, I just put more air in the shocks and it raises it back to where it was before they jumped in.

Re: 72 burb air stopped working?!?
Speaking of learning something, when I was going thru the lowering process I bought drop spindles for my burb (same as my 72 c10 swb stepside I thought) but the ball joints on my burb are visibly alot bigger than the ones on my truck. I did some research to no avail. Everything is original and all the books and sites tell me that they should be the same. Has anyone else ran into the issue.

Re: 72 burb air stopped working?!?
I found the problem with the fan today. There was an intermitent loose wire feeding the fan switch that was not giving enough current to run the fan and turn on the a/c compressor. Just rewired the hot wire coming to the switch vs removing the whole harness to try and find the place where the wire was bad. Cold air again!

Re: 72 burb air stopped working?!?
burbs have bigger ball joints. There's a few things that arent the same as the trucks. My 72 custom delux (top option package) burb has that same upper and lower trim.
