Denali C10

I've been researching this idea for the past couple of days. The short wheelbase GMT800 GMC Yukon Denali is within 1 inch of the wheelbase of a 67-72 shorty C10. My idea is to find a rollover Denali that still has all of the mechanical parts operating. Strip off the body/Doghouse of the Denali and replace it with the setup off of a c10. The entire underside would be updated denali, you'd have the 6.0L engine, all wheel drive and the independent rear in a short, light pickup. The only problems I could see with it would be the width differences, if there are any as well as changing the mount points on the chassis to match that of the pickup. Sorry if this is a rehash, but I haven't seen much information on anyone else trying this out.

First off welcome to the forums.
Being a body swap onto a late model chassis you might find some info down in the 4x4 forum. I know Mudder put his 67 cab n bed on a 78 or so 4 wd chassis. Awesome truck. Not the same as the Denali set up of course but you may gain something there.

Wow, that sounds like quite the undertaking, Please do a build thread if you start the build, you'll have 50 people watching your progress and offering solutions and help along the way, If you could pull it off it would be an amazing truck!

Just watched a "Street Customs" TV show episode where the West Coast Customs business did a full body-swap of a 69 GTO shell onto an '08 - '09 ? GTO wreck.

"Two week build" in their shop for the TV show.

Lotsa work, but anything's possible if you throw enough time & money at it.

Should make a cool project. Take many photos please !!!!

I think aave anything is possible as long as you have a plasma cutter, a welder and a hammer. I will be watching for your build thread.

I believe a guy put one on a GMT900 truck chassis and retained everthing down to the stock dash. It was posted here awhile back but there were no details. It looked really good.

I believe you can put just about any body on any rigid frame if you want to spend the money.

Wow, not a single negative comment in the bunch, pretty impressive! I'd probably stick with the 01-06 denali chassis since that's what I'm most familiar with. It'll be awhile before I start on this one. I got two restores completed last year and have a diesel f100(blasphemy I know) project about midway through right now that could be finished up by the end of the summer. If everything goes smoothly, I could get started with the denali if the right donor pops up. I'm thinking an insurance total would probably be the best way to find one.

my only question is ... how would you register it as a 68 c-10 or an o6 denali? in wi if you buy a "salvage title" vehicle it MUST be inspected by an officer to register it. but if you have an "insurance claim paid" title no inspection needed. just keep title and paper work and register it as whatever ytou want. sounds like a great idea. all wheel drive nice nice nice

I'd probably just register the cab/body since nobody has to be the wiser on what's underneath. A couple of reasons for this: Much cheaper on the taxes than a newer Denali would turn out and the insurance would be a whole lot less too. There was a law in KY awhile ago that it was illegal to put an older motor in a newer car, they never mentioned anything about doing the reverse. I'll see if I can't get some pictures of the projects around the yard this evening. None of it is 67-72 stuff, but you still might be interested in looking at it.

and definetly would love to see this in action. if I had the skills and the time, I would do that, you are getting a new drivetrain on a truck you love.. and paying less than a new truck would cost and a unique ride as well...best of all worlds..

This is one that got finished up last year. It'll probably need a little more care on the paint, but it's effectively done. It's stock, has the 307/ 200R4 and has right at 40K miles. It's a 1988 Cutlass Supreme Classic, so it's the last of the full frame midsized cars.

This is my 1980 Ford f-100, it's got a 4bt Cummins in it followed up by an M5R2 transmission. It's got a 9 inch rear out back too. I haven't seen many stepside Fords in this body style and it's nice to have a car that's the same age as you are. I've got some mini-lites waiting for it out in the garage and it's got a 97 laredo bench seat inside. I drive alot of miles through the week, so since these motors are capable of high 20s, low 30s, it should be a great little DD.

This is the last one for right now, a 1972 GMC sprint with a 400/400 in it. I'm assuming it was set up for drag racing by a previous owner since it's got mickey thompsons out back. It's got a 12 bolt that'll really light them up. This one will be sent out to be restored in the next year or so. I've got some more to show, including the crown jewel. It was in the garage and it's sort of dark in there and makes pictures even worse than what I took so far. Sorry for the blurry pics so far.

I am starting to build body mounts for the burb on a 04 2500hd chassis the big differance is that the new frame is wider and all of the mounts need to be built for the older mountin points. some of the mounts will be right on top of the frame where the brake lines run to the ABS unit and you have to work around the fuel lines.

How does the track width look? I'm figuring it will stick out some, but not a terrible amount. I think the 2500 chassis is a little different too.
