help with wheel hop
I have a 1971 lwb chevy. I recently installed a posi unit with 4/11's. Under heavy acceleration from a dead stop i experience wheel-hop. When the single trac rear-end was in the truck i did not have this problem. How can i fix this without using ladder bars? Thanks, Shawn

Re: help with wheel hop
you might could try some shims under the axle to change your pinion angle

Re: help with wheel hop
We used to put a poly air bag (air ride, firestone) in the right rear coil to take care of wheel hop.It didn't take a lot of air pressure, just add until it calms down.We also used good shocks,I used Bilstien 5150's.It worked on G bodies should work on our trucks.Best part is it was cheap fix.............Bob

Re: help with wheel hop
cheat a little add more air to your tires but this is going to lower your traction

Re: help with wheel hop
I had the same problem after I put the Detriot Locker in my truck. The simple fix was LESS tire pressure. I thought more would be better and it got worse. With 32 psi it hoped like a rabbit. At 28 it got better, At 25 NO HOP. I'm running 275-15's on the rear.454 / 350 , detroit Locker with 3;50 gears

Re: help with wheel hop
the actual problem is probably in the bushings in the panhard bar and in the front of the trailing arms.
Those 6 foot (or so) long trailing arms work as traction bars, and there should be no wheel hop. |

Re: help with wheel hop
Yeah when you said wheelhop I immediately "knew" you had leaves, so when you said coils I then though they don't wheelhop, unless bushings are bad, check em out, poly bushings are great for the rears, they'll stiffen everything right up!

Re: help with wheel hop
Thanks for all the advice. I will check my bushings, that makes alot of sense. I only drive this truck on the weekends because it is a tad bit to radicle to drive every day, i just want to keep the stock look and not use ladder bars or a narrowed sub-frame. Thanks again, Shawn
