Question Transmittion Question

I have a 63 c20 with a bull low 4 speed that whines. I also have a c30 school bus with a 5 speed. I think it is from the late sixtys. Would it bolt in my c20?

Have you checked the fluid level in the 4-speed? Might just be low.

Re: Transmittion Question

I think you would have to change the bellhousing. And then it may or may not have the correct mounts. That 5 speed won't give you much advantage over a 4 speed for your application. 5th is a 1:1 the same as 4th in a 4 speed.

I would check the oil level as 502tripower suggested. If the trans is bad, I would consider upgrading to the newer SM465 4 speed ('69 and newer)

Re: Transmittion Question

I checked the fluid and it is fine. The transmittion is in a c40 not a c30 like i posted before. I know 5 is 1to1 but it would be better than the noise in the 4 speed. I crawled under it today and it even has the same type emergency brake drum deal. Thanks for the replys
