tachometer mounting

Okay, here is a few pics of my pending projects. A 71 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4, a 67 chev 3/4 longbed stepside 292, 67 chev short step 230. The 71 is getting a tachometer installed and I need some help with the wiring. Hopefully the photos show the wire to the firewall cluster, this wire has two ends, one end has a female fitting and the other has a male fitting. This wiring is factory gm. The other end I am to understand connects to the distributor coil Positive side, which is the positive side. I have connected the distributor coil end of the wire to one side of the coil. The male end of the other end of the wire is attached to where I believe it should be. I am not getting any movement out of the tach. Any help?[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

Re: tachometer mounting

The brown wire goes to the Neg side of the coil, not the positive. The pink wire goes to a 12v supply on the fuse panel. If you have factory ignition, the neg side should be the side closest to the front of the vehicle. Look closely, they are marked.

Re: tachometer mounting

The wire I am pointing to in the pic above shows the male lead, the female lead is plugged in.

Re: tachometer mounting

Thanks ledzepp, the tach is working now but it seems to be reading way too high. The tach came out of a gmc 6500 farm truck, maybe that has something to do with it reading wrong.
