8 lug disc brakes?
Why doesn't anyone make a 8 lug disc brake kit. I dont really see any reason why not besides maybe strength. but new trucks do and there isnt that much load on the front end besides maybe steering side load? But even that wouldnt be anything to worry about

Re: 8 lug disc brakes?
not enough people building them up.
You can swap the front end parts off any 71 - 87 3/4 ton and then install new parts. Not real hard. |

Re: 8 lug disc brakes?
If you are going from 3/4 ton drum to disc, you should be able to get by with a spindle, caliper, rotor swap. You may need the tie rod ends out at the spindle too. If you are converting a 1/2 ton you are gonna need the lower control arms and tie rod ends for sure. The 3/4 tons have bigger lower ball joints.

Brothers has the conversion kit (#DBC8L20). It comes with spindles, tie-rods, ball joints, rotors, calipers, everything you need for $999.

Re: 8 lug disc brakes?
Goodnight, 999 dollars for 8 lug disc brakes. I tried to give away a set last year. No takers. Every 3/4 ton from 71-87 will work as a bolt in donor. Even if you pay a couple of hundred for the donor parts and then go crazy at the parts store rebuilding everything with all new parts, you will still be under half that price.

Re: 8 lug disc brakes?
No,you meant knuckle .The spindle is part of the knuckle and you need the whole thing. They aren`t seperable.
I can`t imagine having $900 into new bearings, seals, rotors, calipers(rebuilt),ball joints, tie rod ends, and used knuckles/backing plates. And,it`s more likely to find used assemblies that are good to go than needs everything replaced.Other than calipers,it`s not unusual to get 100,000 miles or so out of the wear parts. It`s as likely the parts were recently replaced before the owner gave up on the truck or wrecked it.My last C/20 went down with all those parts fairly new.I see alot of members here swapping to 1/2t wanting to off their assemblies. There`s certainly no reason to blow nearly a grand on a Brothers "kit".

Re: 8 lug disc brakes?
Technically Special K is right.
I refer to a 2wd as a spindle because it is a given today that they are cast together. Some disc brake AMC stuff seperates. In a 4wd the spindle and knuckle are seperate pieces and do come apart. (except in some 4wd's that do not have a spindle at all, just a unit bearing and a knuckle.) I don't think there is any confusion now though! |
