Anyone seen one of these ??

I found this on a 86 suburban yesterday at the yard.

It was on a small block 350, mounted directly to the fender and plumbed into the stock air inlet.

Its obviously a water seperator for your intake, and the added "tornado" fin ahaha

For 10 $ I figured what the heck ahaha

Anyone know who makes it ??

Pics..

Re: Anyone seen one of these ??

Looks like a dust particle separator for earth moving equipment. Only needed if operating in extremely dusty areas. Should be a wafer filter inside there too.

Yea I have seen them on offroad race cars for years for extreme dust.

The only problem is it doesnt come apart, its solid. Both end caps are sealed.

Im guessing by the way it has the bottom dump outlet with the rubber neck, its to let water escape the housing and not continue to your air filter...

Im going to look at it some more to see if it does come apart or have a way to put a filter in it.

Im just wondering if it was made for chevys, because the way the bracket sat on the inner fender well was perfect.

***EDIT***

Yea it doesnt come apart...there is no way to get a filter in there ahahahahaa

Re: Anyone seen one of these ??

I designed engine air induction systems for GM truck (the GMT800 model, specifically) and I've never seen one of those...

However, I have heard my cohorts talk about them. I suspect it probably is a SEO (Special Equipment Option) dust/water separator, available through GM.

I didn't used to worry about dust so much (because my filter systems were pretty heavy duty) but worrying about water ingestion used to keep me awake at night. Too much water in an engine is catastrophic....

K

PS - I'll shoot that picture to one of my buds and see if he is familiar with it.
