I had forgotten
I had forgotten how much of a PITA it is to replace 19 year old original ball joints. Drivers side at that. It took over an hour to get the steering arm off. Took about an hour to get the spindle off. Then about 45 minutes to get the steering knuckle off. Had to take a break, so I'll get back on it in a few...

Re: I had forgotten
I have some spray from BG that makes PB Blaster look like water. One of the real pains were the cone washers. The spindle was rusted to the knuckle and the ball joints didn't think they were ready to leave their home. It toook a few hours but I got her back together...

Re: I had forgotten
The cone washers can really be tough, but pulling the spindle doesn't have to be so bad. If you already own a slide hammer, it's not that expensive either.
A company called Lisle makes an adapter that make pulling them off somewhat easy. You might be able to find one at a well stocked NAPA or even on-line. For a guy who does all of his own work on a straight axle truck, it sure makes things easier.
