6.0 vortec and tranny
A buddy of mine that runs a wrecker service and mechanic shop had gotten in a 2002 chevy 3/4 ton that had a 6.0 vortec and automatic with 97000 miles on it. He said I can have the motor tranny and all the computer stuff I need for 1500. What do yall think? How complicated is this? Is that a good deal?

Re: 6.0 vortec and tranny
Sounds like a great deal to me. Tons of info everywhere on the web and plenty that have already done it here on this site......not too difficult at all with the end result being a really nice running drivetrain that gets decent mileage and has respectable power.

That's a good price. You'll need to modify the wiring harness and set-up the fuel delivery system for the engine. In my opinion all worth it. I say go for it.

Re: 6.0 vortec and tranny
I would say this - if you don't have the knowledge, then you better have the motivation - Because unless you're gonna have someone else do it, there's gonna be a lot of trial and error, and things to figure out. You're trying to put something recently designed into something that's relatively old - not as easy as you would think. Gas lines, gauges, electrics, etc all have to be thought out, because they aren't compatible now. Just my 2 cents.

Re: 6.0 vortec and tranny
IF the trans is a 4L80 that is a great deal. Around here the motor/PCM/accessories/harness is going for $900ish.
The 4l60e is a a time bomb, the 80 is heavy duty! the wiring information is everywhere, let me know if I can help, I am doing the swap right now too.

Re: 6.0 vortec and tranny
How does the drive shaft work? Would I will be able to shorten the original one to use? What should I do about the wiring harness?

Quote:
as for the harness, get a wiring diagram for that model and hook up what needs to be hooked up and then keep or cut out what you dont need.
