68 K20 Manual steering box

Has anyone had any success in adjusting the manual gear box? I have heard some horror stories about doing so, and so I am affraid of even attempting this unless I can find some documentation on doing it. I am confused about mine, since it was replaced prior to me starting my restoration and worked great with the correct amount of play. But, now for some reason it has a ton of slop in it (I can turn the steering wheel a full 180 degrees before tension). I can't understand how this could happen from just sitting...

So thinking that I should just buy another:
I have been shopping the usual parts providers, and no one has them in stock and all reply with 2 to 3 week order turn around. Has anyone purchased one recently, if so who did you buy it from and how long did it take? Seems a steering box for a 68 K20 is kinda rare, since no one I have talked to so far has them.

These suckers cost on average 350 bucks, so if I can fix mine I'd be all for the attempt to save my money for something else!

I just pulled mine off in favor of a power box. Mine had almost no play in it. I will send it to you for the cost of shipping
