Unhappy Another Fuel Gauge Problem

Hey Guys - I have a 72 custom Camper. This week I was pitting in ten bucks worth of gas and my son and wachted the fuel gauge go all the way to full and is stayed there. Since it's all original I figure the gas gauge went bad. I just put the new one in and now it reads wayyyyy past the full position...almost up side down. I know I put the gauge in right because of the dummy lights. Wiring looks fine (but not tested) where should I go from here??? Thanks

Re: Another Fuel Gauge Problem

Most common two simple things in the fuel system that get meesed up is the wire shorting out under the sill plate on the D/S and loss of ground at the tank. Removal of the seat and checking the float for proper OHMS thru the range of E to F would be next on the list. Believe there is a FAQ on fuel gage T/S. Good luck, post what solves your problem.

I'm with Sammy on this one. Another thing you could check is the ground wire on the back of the instrument cluster. It clips onto a sheet metal tab under the dash. It may have had a bad connection before, but you may have knocked it off completely while you were working on it.
