My truck is finally home
I have a story for all of you on my truck that is finally home. Its a 1966 GMC with running gear from a 78 3/4 ton truck.
It started in 1998 when I started fixing it up so I could drive it at my high school graduation. I ended up selling it in August of 01 and then moved to Maryland. 2.5 years ago I got a call from my brother that it was for sale on craigslist in the bay area so I called the guy up and agreed to buy it before talking to my wife (HUGE MISTAKE). I ended up having my old man pick it up and store it until I could have it shipped. After the sky high fuel prices of last year I thought I better get it shipped before they go back up so today it arrived today on an 18 wheeler. I feel like its 1998 all over again. I have a LONG list of stuff to do and repairs that the PO did that need to be done right. I need to start with replacing all the brake lines, transmission cooler lines, wood bed, lenses, glove box door, alternator, overflow bottle, wire the 78 steering colum, figuire out hot to fix mounting bolts for steering box, u-joints, rear bumper, paint job and the list goes on and on. I will be asking for help as I work on the list. |

Welcome. That is a cool story! I guess if I found out that my old '73 Chevy from my high school days was for sale I'd pick it up too!
I used to live in White Marsh about 5 years ago. Funny thing about Maryland, the city is a dirt ball but the surrounding area is so beautiful!

Re: My truck is finally home
Since it is a short ,fleet, 4x4 GMC, it was well worth buying it back. Tell your wife that this is a better investment than stocks,t-bills or anything else. It will appreciate faster than the rest of our crummy economy! Oh and don't tell her you never plan to sell it! My wife has it figured out though. This old rolling stock is money in the bank. Obomas clunker bill only goes back to 84, so all our older stuff just went up in value.
