67 Barn Find or Chicken Dinner

I frequent Craigslist looking for deals from time to time, usually every few days or so. I am an early riser in the morning, that's just what I do. Saturday morning I did the usual searching of the list looking for a smoking deal..... The last year I looked under was the 1967 search and the first one listed was a 1967 C-20 lwb for $300. I looked at the pictures and said, ah it has to be a hoax. Why I say that is that around here in Idaho I very rarely see a 67 listed and if it it is it is usually someones show truck for a kamillion bucks. I went on to keep searching and in the back of my head I just could not get the $300 dollar deal out of my head. Then that voice took over that you all know, " hey dummy just give the guy a call and see if its a misprint or is a gone". I grabbed for the phone and gave Mr. Barn Find a call . He said he had just listed it about twenty minutes ago and what was it I wanted to know about the truck. " well Mr. Barn Find is the truck still available" -- He said "YES It Is ". So I thought well let me give him the chance to tell his story. Mr. Barn Find went on to tell me how the truck was purchased here locally in Idaho brand new from the Nampa dealership by his grandfather. He went on to give me more history how the truck was used on the farm and passed around to family members to use an enjoy. He said he was the the last one to end up with the truck and had had it a few years. He used it for chores around the farm and was not his daily driver. I was finding the story kinda cool that he knew the entire history of the truck. Mr. Barn Find went on to tell me that a few months ago he had a rental home that he was renting to to a new tennant and the truck was at the house because He himself used to live in the house he was getting ready to rent. The new tennant asked what he was going to do with the old truck, then proceeded to ask Mr. Barn Find if I rent the house and put a new set of rims and tires on it could he let him use the truck for a while. Mr. Barn Find agreed. The tennant used the truck for a bit and then decided he had to move on to another place. He returned the truck to Mr. Barn Find in tact with the new rims and tires still on the truck as payment for its use. Jump forward a couple of months, Mr. Barn Find is doing some restoration around the farm and need to haul off a bunch of debris to the dump. He climbed into the truck after it was loaded and off he went to the dump. A few miles down the road the truck starting sounding bad and the " KABOOM" or whatever sound a truck makes when it decided to send a piston, rod , or ( ???? ) through the bottom of the oil pan, leaving oil everywhere in the street and all over the bottom of the front under carriage. That pretty much sums up the story from Mr. Barn Find. I said to him on the phone " give me the directions I am on my way ". It took me about 45 minutes to get out to that side of the country. When I pulled up he came out to greet me and said "I think I must of listed this truck to low, I have had over 15 to 20 calls since I hung up with you". I said wow and here is your $300 dollars for the truck. I purchased the truck and he signed over the title. I went back today with a tow dolly and brought it back to my place. See photos attached and next two post for all the photos. And yes the first picture is the road sign from where I picked the truck up from-- "There's your sign" Jim

That's what they used in the 60's to detect Martians.

Great looking truck, especially for the money.

Nice find and great price! I have to agree with the guys, I've seen trucks on here parted out that make mine look like junk! Funny how living with rust gives you a differant perceptive.

Re: 67 Barn Find or Chicken Dinner

Ok, that looks like the deal of the week. What are the plans? Inquiring minds want to know.

That's a pretty nice start on a cool truck and it looks like it never had any farm boy modifications on it along the way. The ones around here always seem to have something cobbled onto them or like mine 54 extra holes drilled in the cab and bed to mount different things at different times.

Re: 67 Barn Find or Chicken Dinner

I am not sure what direction I will take this truck. I will probably think about it for a few days and put together some sort of game plan. When I bought the truck I went into the deal with a completely open mind on the possibilities. I have always leaned toward or favored completely stock classics.

I have a daily driver which is a 72 cheyenne that I am in the middle of redoing. I recently did a write up on a install of new seat covers and foam repair, a couple of weeks ago on the 72 cheyenne. It was moved over to the FAQ section.

Re: 67 Barn Find or Chicken Dinner

One more item on the funny looking thing sticking out of the dash. I said it was a CB radio. I removed it tonite and found out that it was a intercom system. I guess from looking at the back of it you could switch it from regular house power or over to be powered by a car battery. My guess is that the Farmer had it in the truck for when he was out in the field and Mrs. Farmer could call him up on the intercom for a " Chicken Dinner "

My guess would be that if it had an intercom then it may have had a camper on it at one time..may also explain the extended mirrors.
