Dash up grade
I re-did my glove box door this weekend...the past owner had some cheesy vinyl pad screwed to it with about 10 machine screws..I wanted the wood grain to match the grant mahogany steering wheel...I used house of kolor candies sprayed through a tack cloth to get some of the wood grain patterns...and then alot of small brush grain details then some clear and buffing...I want to do the gauge cluster next ....hope you like..

Very Nice! That whole interior is very Nice! I'm sure the rest of the truck is just as Nice. My truck will need to be painted so when you get a chance you could do my whole truck like that
![]() I'd probably have to put some 10" rims on it if I painted the whole thing like that but hey, something different ![]()

thanks for all the kind words......I have always liked the look of the wood grain interior trims.....even if it's not year correct for my 68....but hey.....that's what makes them our own trucks....
monteman, I personally didn't see the episode but I heard about it.....There are several different ways to achieve grain effects from tack cloths to grain combs to even using saran wrap for a more burlewood effect...just as you would with a marble texture...but with more colors involved.... I also want to say what a great place this is to hang out and learn stuff..and with a great group of people....I've learned so much from peoples problems, solutions and build ups. I also hope, in the near future, to post a how-to on fiberglass kick panel enclosures to improve imaging in a stereo system...if i can just get around and do it! rigo

scale of 1-10....hmmmmm.....maybe a 5 or so....one of the things you need to do is study the grain of the wood your trying to replicate......not all woods are the same.....another thing...is you have to realize the randomness of nature......if you try too hard.....you'll actually make more of an unrealistic patterned look...another thing...is there are several layers there....
1. a white base 2. a candy tangerine covering with streaking of darker areas 3.cover the area with a tac cloth....spray with a mix of tangerine and root beer candies 4.do some hand brush work to get some of the darker grain lines 5.do the tac cloth thing again 6.more brush work and so on.... the whole process took me about an hour from start of the paint to finishing the clear... in sunlight....cause of the nature of candies....and the layering...you actually get a simulated glow that wood gives when it's covered with a varnish... hope this helps...... rigo
