700r4 question
Did a search and also looked in the engine/drivetrain section and couldnt find what i was looking for. Will a 700r4 from a 4.3 work on a 350. I'm looking high and low at the pick and pull yard and can only find 4.3/700r4's. And if they do fit what would be the best year to try and get. I would like to stay away from computer stuff and still have a cable driven speedo.
One other question while im here. I did a 3 inch drop on the fron of the 66 and put stock shocks on it. Do i need to order some shorter shocks because it seems to be sitting high still with stock ones installed. Thanks in advance for your time and help...... |

Re: 700r4 question
It will bolt up to a v8 wiht no problem. get one in the years of 88-92. Don't worry if it has the electric speedo as you can swap that out with a cable gear. If anything look for an 88 and you won't have that problem.. As for the drp. Did you use springs or drop spyndles?

Re: 700r4 question
Unless your shocks are bottomed out you should be ok. I'd give your springs awhile to settle in; most do after a bit. You can also bounce the truck up and down and then check your shock to see where the travel mark is on the body. This would give you some idea of where its sitting....I'm assuming a little dirt/dust/grime on the shock, too.

Re: 700r4 question
I was told that not all 700r4 are the same the ones in s10's are not made to be used in fullsize trucks they bolt on but I was told that they will not last in
Bigger vehicles

Re: 700r4 question
You really shouldn't use one from a 6 cyl car only because they are not built the same as an 8 car. They are weaker because of the HP and all that other stuff. I picked up a tranny from a 92 chevy truck worn out for $75 and it had a 4 pinion sprag in it. I have only seen 3 pinons before. I used the tranny for parts.

Re: 700r4 question
I was told that all you need is to have the 6 cylinder trans rebuilt with the V-8 stuff......
the 6 has less clutches.....

Re: 700r4 question
This is probably correct. My truck has a TH375 from a 73 Caprice. It is a lite duty TH400 and has a TH350 tailshaft. It can be upgraded to the TH400 by adding clutch packs per my local trans guy. This may apply to the 700's also.
