Re: Cargo panel pictures

You are in luck. I just installed brand new reproduction panels in my Blazer. I'll post pictures here soon. They are pretty nice. I did not install them with screws but opted to intall them with Velcro. I'm happy with the result. It looks very clean without screws peppered throughout the panel.

VELCRO?! That's genius! I don't have a CST truck (i.e. no little brackets on the inner tub wall) and was wondering what the best way to install some side panels would be - sound like easy removal when you want to take the top off as well.

Looking forward to the pics.

Re: Cargo panel pictures

Thanks for the velcro idea green monster. Rep point added. I was going to epoxy some plastic door panel attachments, but velcro will be so much easier.

Re: Cargo panel pictures

See pictures. The panels were purchased from Brothers. The packaging indicated the panels are from Truck World in Oklahoma.

More pictures... Carpet and mats are from ACC. The front carpet hold down for the rear carpet was made of stainless steel by B&D Machine shop in Malvern, PA.

Re: Cargo panel pictures

Nice work, GM! That is one nice looking truck. Did you get your wiring straightened out? BTW, I just bought a dual battery box, any help with the harness would be great...or is just cables?

Sorry, posted in the wrong thread...can't move it, can't delete it. Help MODS

Re: Cargo panel pictures

I was advised to run only one battery so that's how I have it set up. I can't really help you there, sorry. The automotive electrician said I could run dual batteries but I should hook up a switch to alternate between batteries for charging and usage. I still have to rig up my factory temp and vac gauge. Maybe I can meet up with you so you can reference each other's wiring.

Thanks for the advise, give me a call anytime, but have a wedding this weekend...just talked to M&H, they suggested hooking the batteries in series (running a cable between both positives), but I also want to hook up a switch to direct the charge where and when I choose. Gotta drop down to the electrical gurus for advise on that!

My modified harness should be shipping out today, so stop up anytime after a week

sorry you're selling the blazer again, only 4000, what a deal

Re: Cargo panel pictures

GM do you have any tips on manipulating the rear panel around the curve towards the door?

Re: Cargo panel pictures

Ahhh... the panels don't fit easily.

I had to cheat there. The carpeted wheel tubs actually prevent the panel from fitting properly. To work around this I used a round file to elongate the screw holes on the chrome strips the attaches to the bed rail. Attached the chrome strip to th bed so you have the strip sitting up above the bed about 3/16" all the way across the bed rail. I did not want to go any further than that because I did not want the strip to stop the fiberglass top from sitting properly if I ever decide to install it again. I was able get about 3/16 of an inch to work with so I could fit the panel in.

Then I used a file to "expand" the end of the chrome strip that the the panel slides into. I moistend the back side of the panel with water to promote bending. Carefully bend but be careful not too bend too much or the panel will start to crack. Then I placed the plastic from the packaging on the panel where the panel would fit into the part of chrome strip that I filed to prevent vinyl from getting damaged. Lubricate the top of the vinyl panel with a light oil like WD-40 so the panel will better fit into the chrome strip. The new panels are a bit thicker than the originals so vinyl wraping on the panels was not sliding up into the chrome strip. I had a pucker of material from front to back. I had to use a wonder bar press by pressing on the panel and up at the same time to "help" push the vinyl up into the chrome strip so the panel looked good and tight otherwise the vinyl would have been bunched up between the top and the top line of stitching.

I have to re-glue the vinyl to the backing panel at the rear of the driver side near the tailgate. The Velcro is holding but the wrapped vinyl is pulling from the backing. You can see the panel is bulging a little bit in the picture. The passenger side is holding well.
