Cab trim removal
What be the simplest or best way to remove the trim from the outside of an 80' gmc cab? Most is in pretty good shape so will try to salvage it.
I'm also trying to find out what set of gears are in my 83' 1ton dually. 454, 4-speed, 4x4. Is it located on the axle housing and, if so, where? Thanks for the help. |

For the trim, once you get the corners off, the center section just slides off like a sliding door. As for your other question, IDK.

Your gears are more than likely 4:10's. Supposedly you can jack the tires up off the ground and turn the drive shaft until the tire makes one full revolution and if the drive shaft makes about 3 3/4 turns that's = 3:73's, about 4 turns = 4:10's and so on and so on. I may be wrong though someone correct me if i am. But the only way to be sure is to count the ring an pinion and divide. Maybe that will help If any of that makes since.

Thanx gize. I appreciate the help. Trying to relieve myself and my brother- in-law from some excess metal we have. We've pretty well scavenged what we have. Checked the prices for prepared vs. unprepared yesterday and it seems to be a little bit more profitable to cut it up to get rid of it. It's $125 vs. $50 around here as of yesterday, but the dealer said he didn't think it would stay very long. Oh well, things come and go.
