Dash Cluster problem!

ok when the headlights are off the blinkers work fine. when i turn the headlights on they both lights up constant but only the left blinker will work and the gauge lights do not come on and the water temp guage will only work when the headlights are on. Ive checked the circuit on the back and all the connections seem fine.

Re: Dash Cluster problem!

Recheck your grounds. Clean terminals and try again. Sounds like that may be the problem

Re: Dash Cluster problem!

all grounds seem to be good. i did find that the cluster lights are on. the blinkers are the only problem. when the lights are not on they work fine just when i turn the lights on they both come on. the left will blink very slowly and the right will just dim

Re: Dash Cluster problem!

On our year model trucks, when you have a light out, the dash signal indicator stays lit to let you know that you have a light out. As said previously by others a ground will give you the same symptoms as a light being blown or not grounded.

Re: Dash Cluster problem!

When I say light out, I mean any one of your signal lights and on my truck thats 4 per side because my sidemarkers blink as well. The driverside lights will cause the left turn signal indicator to stay on when you pull your lights on and passenger=right. Make sure that you have a good ground to everything. I had a similiar problem and I had to add a ground strap from the bed to the frame.

Re: Dash Cluster problem!

side markers, tail lights, and backup lights would not do this. This feature is to allert you that the turn signal is not working. Frequently, if the front parking light/turn signal light assembly isn't grounded very well, it'll back feed and light up the indicator... seems more common on 69 and 70 models.

Re: Dash Cluster problem!

just went through the same issue with
my 1972 GMC. backfeeding through the
temp gauge annd high beam indicator.
both would pulse with the turn signal,
and the temp gauge would climb in
increments until burried. i was missing
a screw holding the printed circuit to the
back of the cluster.
all set now. so easy once you know
where to look.

Re: Dash Cluster problem!

yea i wouldof never expected a non grounded light. My temp guage and fuel guage still arent working. i think i just dont have the temp guage hooked up right because its an aftermerket guage, but my fuel guage just stays at the bottom. is that a bad guage or sender? how can i check that?
