Suspension Rebuild

1972 Chevrolet c10 Cheyenne Super.

CPP:
Front End Rebuild Kit
Upper Cross Shaft Kit
Lower Cross Shaft Kit

Also I will be adding in a Power Steering Component kit from CPP as well. Now, Are there any Corvette Steering Columns out there that are a direct replacement for ours.

Can I get your guys' .02 about this and add to the list, tight budget minded. IF you guys know of any better deals on these parts that would be helpful as well.

Re: Suspension Rebuild

72mistressc10, have you priced these items at you local parts house? And is there a reason you would want to replace your column with a corvette column when doing the powersteering swap?

BTW, welcome to the board!

Re: Suspension Rebuild

I haven't yet, just the convenience of buying as a kit is what kind of sold me on it, very open to suggestions though.

Reason for the corvette column is for the tilt/telescopic steering wheel, big boys need some room.

Also the cross shaft kits from cpp are less than they are at checkers/Oreilly.

Re: Suspension Rebuild

You can buy a oem factory tilt column for about $400-$500 or go with an ididit column. Don't know if anyone has used a vette column before. Van tilt columns can also be retrofitted easily for less money.

Re: Suspension Rebuild

Hi I use to have a 69 swb that I purchased a while back and it had a corvette steering column in it, I dont know what modes were done(if any) but it looked factory. It had a floor shifter on the truck so it didn't have the column shift and it didn't have a ignition switch also. I'm also a big guy and the tele. was great! I been thinking of putting one in my 72 that I have know but all the ones I have seen have the ignition switch on the column. I dont know what year vette came with out one or if the P.O modified that area of the column, if he did he did real good job because it looked factory. Good luck with your truck and keep me posted on the column situation. Luis

Re: Suspension Rebuild

I will keep ya posted and let you know what I find, but back to the suspension. Other than the 3 things i posted up top, what else would be a suggestion. I would like to lower it but don't konw how much, my wheel set up is Boss 335's 22x9.5 with a 40 series tire, any insight would be nice

Re: Suspension Rebuild

Hmm... that's a pretty big tire/wheel setup. Maybe some of the suspension pros will be able to provide some help with how low you can go.
