I did this conversion on my 1970 Blazer. Some people have asked for me to post it and show how I did it. So, here are some photos of the finished product. I will say it's hard and takes time! I have about 20/30 additional pictures of how I did it (kinda step by step) if someone is wanting to make the undertaking. I'm only able to put 5 pics on here now.

Hope some of you are brave enough to try this. I makes your ride really look cool and different.

About the hood latch. I used the 1970 hood latch mechanism that was on my truck. And the latch pin on the hood was the same I believe from 67-72. Here are some more photos.

Well, the last pic is the line I cut with a cut off wheel. I just came up (I believe) 2 inches from the leading edge and marked it all the way down. Then, I used a strait edge and drew a line. Then, used a very thin cut off wheel and cut through. In that photo the bottom side of the hood is still attached. I'll try to get more photos.

Here are a few more photos.

See how I slid the leading edge section of the hood I cut off.... under the existing hood? This brought the hood to the length it needs to be to shut with a 1969-1972 grill shell.

But, when I did that, the front section of the hood I cut off was too short on the ends(didn't reach to the sides of the fenders.) Meaning I had to take the section I cut loose for the front of the hood and splice it in the center to (spread it out to the edges of the hood sides. Then, I spliced in a half inch wide piece of sheet metal in the center of the hood front section.

Here are some more photos.

In these photos you can see the front section that was cut into and you see the front right side sitting on the grill there. Then I slide the leading edge of the cut off hood under the original hood and used sheet metal screws to hold it. I drilled the holes in the original hood larger so I could go back and rosette weld then up. Hope that gets someone interested in trying this.

After you slid the cut pieces under the front edge of the hood, how did you blend the difference in height? Do you build that up with filler or metal? Looks awesome!

That's because Low Buck had a 69-72 hood with a 67=68 nose graphed on. This is a 67-68 hood being shortened.

Here are a few more photos of the hood mod.

I forgot to mention too. When reattaching the (2) leading edges of the hood to the factory hood. Be sure to have your grill shell on and in place. Lining up the leading edge of the hood and grill shell with a perfect gap (about 1/4 to 3/8). Remember, have the hood aligned and on perfect at the back when doing this! Because if you align this later, all your leading edge work will be off, and all that work looks bad. OK................

Basically, I did a spot weld every inch, then went back and spot welded every half inch, then quarter inch, and eight inch. Then did a half inch long weld with the welder turned down low (to tie the stitch welds closed). Alternating from each end of the hood and center area of the hood to keep the heat low and warping to an minimum. Then, I removed the screws that were high up on the hood (that were in the slope area) and rosette welded those closed. Those I had to do in steps because they wanted to warp. So, I would close up a little amount of the hole and move to another one and close up a little and come back. Welding these rosette holes will warp your slope! I'm telling you, you don't want to warp this area. During prep time all your effort will go to crap if you have to shrink, stretch, beat and modify with bondo this slope area. This will make of break your work later. Go Slow!

Looks great it is one of my favorite mods I have done as well. On LowBuck I did use a 67 hod but the front latch section of a 70 hood. This gave it a totaly stock look from under the noise as well. Here is a link to the How-To. Hard to believe that was over 2 yrs ago already

Yes, I never saw a article about doing these hoods. I just sat and looked at that hood 100 times to finally decide where to cut and what would decrease the labor. So, that's how I came up with my spin on the hood. But, making this hood is a commitment. Thanks for showing me the link and your work! Nice.........!
