ok guys, i am not a genious in the electrical field and do not want to take the truck to a shop to get the radio installed but how would i install a radio say a 1.5 din into the truck because it has anywhere from a 14 to 18 pin harness and i am wondering how to wire up the harness. pics if you have them

First off- is it a factory radio or aftermarket? Second, cut a bigger hole stuff it in and follow the directions with the radio. One wire to battery, one to ignition (large pink wire behind key) one to ground, and then to you speakers. Not hard, you probably won't use all the wires, like the power antenna wire. Good luck.

Um, isn't 1 1/2 din the oversized stereo? I don't think that is going to fit, not to mention look right in the stock location. Single din fits great though.

Well, if you're gonna hack the dash for a single DIN unit, might as well hack it for 1-1/2. I wired in my Pioneer CD player no sweat, and if I can do it...YOU can do it. But I left my CD player in the glove box, I have a remote for it so I don't have to lean to press buttons, and I just bought a radio delete to cover the gaping hole.

a facotry radio? I plan on goin to the junk yard and cutting the wire harness that goes to the radio off a 90 somethin GM and then wiring up any radio just involves getting a adapter from walmart for that year GM...

I didn't use a wiring harness on mine, I did just like jmanz69 did and wired it right in. My CD player came with a wiring diagram so it was easy to figure out. Had to buy some extra wire from the hardware store, but it works great.

I BOUGHT AN ALPINE OFF A BUDDY FROM WORK AND ON THE BACK IT HAD A SMALL STICKER WITH THE SCHEMATIC. HAVE YOU LOOKED THE RADIO OVER GOOD TO SEE IF YOU HAVE A DIAGRAM ON THE BACK?THERE SHOULD BE SWITCHED HOT, CONSTANT HOT FOR PRESETS AND CLOCK, POWER ANTENNA, SPEAKER LF, SPEAKER RF, SPEAKER LR, SPEAKER RR, GROUND AND A WIRE TO SWITCH POWER ON TO AMP IF YOU HAVE ONE.

speaker wires are usually brown, green, purple, or gray, with a stripe for the -, and solid color for +. orange, blue, red/white, are usually colors denoting accessory options (power ant., remote, dimming, etc). yellow (I think...) goes to your ignition, red goes to battery or fuse panel, thin black is ground, and the antenna is either a small white wire, or a fat black one with a plug on it. don't quote me on that though.... it's been a while.

i am not hacking the dash to put a 1.5 din in it i am making a console that runs from the dash to the floorboard where it is going to be mounted and then i am going to put a delete plate in the stock location.
