Re: Sand or Soda

I have a neighbor that does both at $100/hr...but it takes him a LONG time to do a whole vehicle with soda. He has different sand/silica media that he can also do a whole vehicle with and get the crud off while not harming panels.

I've become leary of soda blasting, some primer manufacturers won't warranty their product over a soda blasted surface due to adhesion problems. According to my neighbor it leaves a very fine film that has the benefit of providing corrosion protection for quite a while but must be removed...they say it must be powerwashed with a vinegar solution. So when you're ready to prime you must wash everything thoroughly then immediately dry and prime. Sounds like alot of hassle.

I had my entire truck media blasted in 1996 and it was upwards of $1500. My neighbor would be about the same at $100/hr x 16 hours-ish and he has a steady stream of restoration customers. So I don't think vegaschevy is far off.

Re: Sand or Soda

I would look around. I had a cab media blasted for $250.00 at a popular local blaster. I also had my swb frame, rear end housing, trailing arms, control arms, spindles, springs, and other misc items sand blasted and powdercoated for $650 cash at another shop 60 miles away. They turned out great and it was well worth the drive. I have blasted the entire underside of my '69 Camaro several years ago and it is a job!

Re: Sand or Soda

I had my cab blasted by a place in wichita for 230.00. He used aluminum oxide. Did a very good job. Took him all morning to get it done(dealing with customers), but only charged me for an 1 3/4 hrs.
