Is this my oil sending unit?
Is that my oil sender?
If not is it in this pic? If so why is there 2 wires? Where do those wires go to?

If that comes out of the block behind the intake then yes it is an oil pressure sender. That particular one is for a oil pressure light though, not a gauge. It is just designed to turn on/off a light at some preset pressure setting. The one for an electrical gauge (not a direct pressure reading unit) is usually larger in diameter and down by the oil filter.

Looks like it could be but see that brass fitting in the upper right corner of the pic? Thats for the oil sender(mechanical gauge)

that looks like some one just shoved it into the intake to block a port... can you get a betterr photo, maybe where it is threaded into the engine?

That's not in the right place, I can't imagine there is oil there, take it off and see if oil squirts all over the place.

it is being used as a simple pipe plug, it is serving no oher use at this moment and place.

I see how that pic looks like the plug is going into the intake but its actually not.Heres a better look at it (right behind the intake):

I disagree. It's fitted into the block. It's an oil pressure sensor. Had one on a smallblock I had. It was strangely used to control the power to my electric choke. Like a kill switch. If I had oil pressure the choke worked right. Unplugged it and the choke closed completely and car wouldn't start. All factory wiring on my new 78 Nova. Ya, I'm that old. LOL

Yeah JHolley was right, its for the dummy light (as the napa guy called it).
I picked up a tubing kit and I'll hook it up tonight. Let's hope there's no leaks up by the gauge.

I like to use the two-man approach, one under hood, one in cab to watch for oil leaks and watch gauges.

Well I almost fixed it. That kit had 2 compression fittings and I screwed up both of them at the sending unit location so there's a little leak coming out the top of the fitting. The gauge side worked and went right in. Off to find some more fittings tomorrow. Thanks for the help fellas.
By the way, I was trying to see if the water temp sender was working so while the truck was running, I put the positive lead from my meter on the end of it and grounded the negative lead and got about 13 volts. So that means my temp sender is working right?
