Vortec Swap

I am going to swap my Vortec 5.7 out of my 2000 into my 69. Has anyone else done this and if so how well did you get the wire harness tucked up to make it clean? What about the A/C components? Also I am going to swap out the auto 4l80 it has with a manual. Will I have any problems with the ecm not seeing the trans? If so what is the fix?

I am interested in seeing some pictures of this swap too. Thanks

Re: Vortec Swap

I put a vortec motor in my 71 but I didnt end up using the fuel injection. I get 18-20 MPG with a carb and a buddy of mine gets 13-15 with his fuel injected vortec.

Re: Vortec Swap

Still have to run an electric fuel pump though as there are no provisions for a mechanical pump.

True, But it beats the hell out of running fuel injection.

Re: Vortec Swap

The computer will throw the check engine light if it isn't hooked to the trans. No biggie, as it will still run the truck. If I were going to have OBD2 in mine, I would dedicate a CEL, but then yours will always be lit. The thing to do would be to have the computer flashed to a manual trans ECM, or junkyard one.

Re: Vortec Swap

I will be installing a light somewhere in the dash. Is there anywhere else I can send the ecm to get flashed other then the dealer?

What about power? Does it still get the same hp and torque?

If tunned the right way it will run very strong.

My set up is:
1998 vortec block .040 over, vortec heads with screw in studs, comp cams valve springs, comp 1.5 roller rockers, edelbrock air gap vortec intake, comp cam Xtreme Energy XR676HR roller cam, Holley 750cfm 4-bbl Carburetor, holley blue fuel pump, and accel ignition.

I had a 700R4 trans behind it at first and thats when it was getting the best MPG's. When I put a TH350 behind it MPG's dropped but not bad since the motor was built to run.
