Serpentine Belt Setup Question

Hey Guys,

I talked to a guy that has a serpentine belt setup from a 1989 5.0 Throttle body motor in a Firebird.

Will this work on my 1973 350 SBC??

Thanks

Re: Serpentine Belt Setup Question

I put a 91 setup on my 72. The right head does not have on hole for the upper bolt.
Don't forget the reverse direction water pump.

So looking at post #14 of the thread, this doesn't look to be a good setup to buy?!?!?

Re: Serpentine Belt Setup Question

They state they(car setup) are prone to breakage, and belt squeaks... I went with a '94 suburban/truck serp setup on the '67 and went with the GMPP serp setup on the '56 years ago.

Have you bought it yet? I think you will be fine with that one. A good friend of mine had a 90 Trans Am with that setup and he didn't have any issues. A buddy of mine (PCMCobra) picked me up a set from a mid 90's truck that I will be using on my 68 S/C truck.

Re: Serpentine Belt Setup Question

I have seen the two piece cast ones break. But they also have a one piece serp setup made of steel too. Only drawback is to install it or remove it requires removal of the water pump as the area around the water pump is mounted tightly around it. But it is steel not cast metal. On some surban's and GMC 3/4 T trucks, 92-94's 350's. Weak points seem to be around the alt. and the power steering pump.

Re: Serpentine Belt Setup Question

Okay, I just picked up on of these systems from a S10 Blazer. Basically everything bolts up fine (outside of missing the one hole on the pass. side head, which I will drill and tap).

I ordered a A/C delete pulley from Rock Auto ($27.79) and went to remove the A/C compressor last night. I found that the two bolts that hold the compressor into the bracket will not clear the clutch pulley.

Do you have to remove the clutch pulley before you can remove the bolts? Anyone get the bolts out without having to do that?

Here's a pick of the setup.

BTW, I got this from Pick-a-part for $75. Not a bad deal.

Re: Serpentine Belt Setup Question

My dad is running the serpentine setup off a 89 4.3 and it's working great on his 283 with vortec heads.

There should be a flat spot on the head of the bolt, just rotate the bolt until you get to the flat spot and pull it out.

Yep, I had found the flat spot but it still wasn't enough to clear the edge of the pulley.
